Seven Channels of Sonic Perfection Unlocked with Onkyo’s Mid-range RZ Series Audio-Video Receivers

Press Release dated: 9 May 2017

OSAKA, JAPAN. Onkyo, the leader in smart, sophisticated, and wholly immersive entertainment solutions today announces the TX-RZ820, the flagship 7.2-channel THX® Certified Select™ model in its RZ Series A/V receiver lineup, as well as a sibling THX Certified Select TX-RZ720 network A/V receiver delivering similarly high performance and future-ready feature set.

The 180 W/Channel TX-RZ820 and 175 W/Channel TX-RZ720 exemplify Onkyo’s ability to deliver the emotion in music, movie scores, and game soundtracks. Dynamic Audio Amplification harnesses high instantaneous current through low impedance to accurately control large speaker drivers, responding to lightning-fast changes in massed, constantly moving audio waves.

Blisteringly fast dynamic response, outstanding transient performance, and wide-spectrum 5 Hz–100 kHz reproduction combine to express the natural energy and life in sound.

Fed clean analog signals by a high-quality 384 kHz/32-bit AK4458 D/A converter enhanced by VLSC™ filtering technology, which removes subtle digital noise, Dynamic Audio Amplification elicits rich and musical sound, even at high THX Cinema Reference Volume.

Both receivers decode Dolby Atmos® and DTS:X™ object-based audio and come with dedicated upmixing solutions for legacy soundtracks, while AccuReflex assures precise phase-alignment of low- and high-directional sounds at the listening position when used with Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers.

For users wanting immersive sound to match their 4KTVs, six HDMI® inputs support pass-through of Dolby Vision™, HDR10, HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma), BT.2020, and 4K/60p/4:4:4/24-bit video. Both include front HDMI inputs*1 and Zone 2 HDMI Out for distributing next-generation video to a second display.

The TX-RZ820 and TX-RZ720 feature 5 GHz/2.4 GHz Wi-Fi® to support interference-free music streaming and wireless multi-room audio distribution.

Convenient streaming via AirPlay, or from supported music apps via Chromecast built-in*2, as well as the DTS Play-Fi®*2 app, make wireless listening easy, while Bluetooth® technology is included for wireless transmission of almost any audio from mobile and PC.

Users can select songs from TIDAL*3 Spotify®*3, TuneIn*3, and Deezer*3 using Onkyo Controller app*4 for iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, and Android™ devices and stream to the receiver while mirroring playback on optional NCP-302 speakers over FireConnect™*5 powered by Blackfire. Analog signals input via external audio terminals*6 can also be shared wirelessly, including vinyl albums from the phono input.

The Onkyo Controller app provides an easy-to-use interface for exploring music libraries on media servers and mobiles, and for controlling the A/V receiver. Hi-Res Audio in Direct DSD 11.2 MHz*7, DSD 5.6 MHz*8, Dolby® TrueHD*9, as well as FLAC, WAV, AIFF, and ALAC to a maximum 192 kHz/24-bit resolution is supported.

Wired audio distribution is another strong point. The TX-RZ720 includes Powered Zone 2 speaker outputs and pre-/line output with DAC for network, S/PDIF, HDMI, and analog sources, while the TX-RZ820 has Powered Zone 2 outputs and Zone 2/Zone 3 pre-/line*10 outputs. Both models incorporate independent balance, tone, and volume controls for each zone.

As well as an increase in power over the TX-RZ720, and upgrades to select audio components, the TX-RZ820 adds VLSC™ on all seven channels; an aluminum front panel, door, and volume control; 7.2-channel pre-outs for outboard amp connection; and Whole House Mode for easy simultaneous multi-zone audio playback. Both models add an extruded aluminum heat sink with fan for cool running.

Focused on easy home integration, both models have a 12 V trigger, IP control and setup over LAN, RS-232 terminal, IR input, and optional rack-mount kit allowing either to slot into an existing home automation system.

Pitched at users who desire immersive, compelling, accurate sound from components that are easy to use and built to last, the TX-RZ720 and TX-RZ820 lead their class. Considerable R&D investment has made both models seamless to operate day-to-day, while giving peak performance in 5.2.2-channel object-audio environments.
